Dispatchers honored this week

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Each year during the second week of April, dispatch personnel in the public safety community are honored.

The week-long event, known as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, was started in 1981 in California. According to officials, this week is a time to celebrate and thank those who dedicate their lives to serving the public.

Its a week set aside so everyone can be made aware of their hard work and dedication.

This week honors the men and women who respond to emergency calls, dispatch emergency professionals and equipment, and render life-saving assistance to citizens.

The City of Pikeville’s dispatchers were recognized during last night’s Pikeville City Commission meeting.
