Even salt trucks struggling with slick roads

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — The Department of Highways is asking motorists to stay off the roads this morning, after freezing rain left roads throughout Eastern Kentucky a solid sheet of ice.

A statement from the department last night said that current conditions had caused their heavy trucks loaded with salt and with chains on their tires slipping off the road.

As a result, the department has pulled work crews off of B and C priority roads in order to focus on A priority roads and main roads that lead to hospitals.
