FRANKFORT, Ky. — Gov. Andy Beshear has confirmed the first deaths that are the result of flash flooding in Eastern Kentucky Wednesday night and Thursday.
Beshear said during his Team Kentucky briefing Thursday afternoon that three deaths had been confirmed. By evening, however, that number had risen to eight.
And the governor said that number is expected to rise.
“Let me say, I’m expecting double-digit deaths in this flooding,” Beshear said. “That’s something we rarely see.”
And with additional rain expected tonight, he urged Kentuckians to remain vigilant.
“We’re going to need people to take some steps to keep them safe,” Beshear said. “Otherwise, even the total we expect could grow.”
