Fish and Wildlife biologists manage an 80 acre controlled burn in Pike County

MIDDLEFIELD, Ky. –  Residents in the Lick Creek area of Pike County may have seen quite a bit of smoke on Monday coming from the mountain.  But, it wasn’t because of a wildfire.  Biologists with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife were monitoring a controlled burn of about 80 acres in the Middlefield area on the state’s Wildlife Management Area.  The controlled burn was part of the ongoing preparations for the Elk Viewing area which is scheduled to open to the public this year.
