Flannagan Reservoir Advisory Lifted

Dickenson County, VA — The Virginia Department of Health has lifted an advisory issued earlier this month warning Southwest Virginians not to enter the water at John W. Flannagan Reservoir. VDOH says the advisory was lifted after the water at the reservoir was tested several times. The advisory was for harmful algae and warned people not to swim and pet owners were advised to keep their animals away from that area. Recent results of the testing showed the concentrations of the algae are now in a safe range. Water from the Pound and Cranesnest rivers was also tested and did not show a high level of the algae. The Flannagan Reservoir is a source of drinking water for 37,000 customers in Dickenson, Buchanan, Wise and Tazewell counties.
