Floyd Central guard Maddy Engle passes the 1,000-point mark as a sophomore

EASTERN, Ky. – The Floyd Central Lady Jaguars team has been a force to be reckoned with all season, with a record of 19-6 and 6-0 in their district.

Leading the charge has been guard Maddy Engle, who just scored her 1,000 career point in only her second season at the high school level.

No, that is not a typo, she is just a sophomore.

Engle is averaging just over 16 points and 7 rebounds per game, with three double doubles and nine games where she scored 20 points or more. Maddy will be a player to watch not only in the 15th region, but in the entire state for the next couple of years. She has the tools and ability to be a front runner for Kentucky’s Ms. Basketball before her career is over at Floyd Central.

I had a chance to talk to Floyd Central’s Head coach, Justin Triplett talked about Engle’s career so far Monday.

“I couldn’t be prouder of Maddy Engle for reaching the 1,000-point milestone as a sophomore at Floyd Central, Triplett said. “This is an incredible accomplishment and a true reflection of her work ethic, dedication, and commitment to getting better every single day.”

The Lady Jags went undefeated in district play for the first time since the 2017-2018 season, giving them the number one seed in the 58th district tournament. Engle has played a huge part in their success as a player and leader; she averaged over 18 points per game in district play alone and was their leading scorer in four of the six games.

“Maddy is not only a talented scorer, but also a great teammate who leads by example on and off the floor,” Triplett added. “This milestone is well deserved, and I’m excited to see what the future holds for her and our program.”
