PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pikeville man has been taken into custody nine days after fleeing from an officer attempting to arrest him for outstanding warrants, but he didn’t go without a fight.
Pikeville Police had attempted to arrest Jacob Vanover, 22, in a car at a local gas station back on Aug. 26, but he allegedly locked the door, took the officer’s taser and fled.
On Sunday, police got a tip that a friend had picked him up in Lexington and was bringing him back to Pikeville. Officers stopped their car on Cedar Hills Drive.
After explaining he was under arrest, Vanover once again locked the door and tried to get into the driver’s seat of the car. But this time, he wouldn’t get away, as police broke the car’s window, stunned him with a taser, and arrested him.
He is now being held in the Pike County jail on charges of criminal mischief and resisting arrest, as well as drug possession after a search after his arrest turned up a small bag of heroin. He has also been charged with robbery, theft, fleeing police and wanton endangerment for the incident on Aug. 26
