PIKEVILLE, Ky. — The former city attorney for Elkhorn City has been sentenced to more than three years in prison, after pleading guilty to bank fraud and filing false tax returns.
Timothy Belcher, 56, previously admitted to taking more than $800,000 from a settlement intended for the children of a man killed in a crash and using it for his own personal and business expenses.
In federal court last week, Belcher was sentenced to a total of 41 months in prison. He was also ordered to repay $816,000 to the children, as well as an additional $51,000 to the IRS.
Belcher was taken into custody following the sentencing hearing and is currently being held in the Pike County Detention Center.
