PIKEVILLE, Ky. — An attempt to arrest a Pike County fugitive Friday night ended with the suspect getting away but his companion going to jail.
A Pikeville Police officer spotted Jacob Vanover, 22, of Pikeville, sitting in the passenger seat of a car at a gas station and knew him to be wanted on several warrants.
When the officer told Vanover to step out because he was under arrest, Vanover locked the door and told the driver, identified as Isabella Lewis, 20, of Lexington, to go. Lewis started the car but paused when the officer pulled his taser.
Vanover reportedly told Lewis to change seats with him and the officer fired the taser through a crack in the window. Vanover allegedly grabbed the taser and tried to pull it through the window, prompting the officer to pull his gun.
Vanover put the car into reverse and backed into a pole. Lewis then got out of the car and Vanover got away by speeding down Cowpen Road.
Lewis tried to run away, but was quickly arrested. She was booked on misdemeanor charges of fleeing police, hinder prosecution and resisting arrest, but a felony charge of promoting contraband was added when jail staff allegedly found meth in her bra.
Vanover remains at large. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to contact Pikeville Police at (606) 437-5111.
