Hawks Take Flight in Season Opener, Roll Past Wesley Christian

The Pike County Central Hawks opened their season on a high note Monday night, taking down Wesley Christian 74–62 at the Hawks Nest.

Pike Central had three players finish in double figures, including a big double-double performance from Owen Bowman, who powered the Hawks with 23 points and 17 rebounds. Bowman shot 46.7 percent from the field and was nearly automatic at the free-throw line, going 9-for-10.

William Rowe followed with 20 points, shooting 38.5 percent from the floor, 50 percent from three and matching Bowman with a 9-for-10 night at the line.

Colton Ratliff rounded out the double-figure scoring with 15 points, hitting 60 percent from the field and adding a three-pointer.

As a team, Pike Central shot 52.1 percent from the field, 37.5 percent from three and 84 percent at the foul line. The Hawks also pulled down 25 rebounds in the win.

Individual stats for Wesley Christian were not available at press time.

Pike Central returns to action tonight on the road at Owsley County for a 7:15 p.m. tipoff, weather permitting.

In other area boys basketball action Monday night, Johnson Central defeated Lewis County 78–53, Knott Central edged Shelby Valley 65–61 and Lawrence County topped Morgan County 79–64.
