Here are some helpful tips to stay safe from floodwaters

With more rainfall anticipated over the next week, it’s important to be mindful of weather conditions, especially with the ground already being saturated. Here are some steps you can take to keep you and your family safe when the water begins to rise.

Flood Preparedness

· Listen to the radio stations of Mountain Top Media for regular updates and reports on flood activity.

· Have an evacuation plan in place and practice an emergency evacuation routine.

· When flood or flash flood warnings are issued, head for higher ground.

· Six inches of moving water can sweep you off your feet. Do not walk through moving water.

· Never drive through flooded areas. If you find yourself facing a flooded roadway, turn around and seek an alternate route. If your vehicle is in rapidly moving water, exit the vehicle immediately and seek higher ground.

· Keep children away from waterways during flood watches and warnings.

· Use extreme caution at night when it is more difficult to spot flooding.

You may also want to pack a few items in an emergency supply bag which can include :

· Battery-powered or hand-cranked radio to stay updated on weather conditions and open shelters.

· 3 day supply of non-perishable food and water (one gallon per person, per day).

· a Flashlight with Extra batteries

· A First aid kit

· a 7 day supply of medications

· Baby Supplies including extra diapers, formula and clothing

· Cell phones with battery packs and chargers.

· Blankets

· Extra clothing
