HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Pikeville rallies past Madison Central; Hawks move to 5-1 with tourney win

Pikeville rallied in the game’s final eight minutes to come from behind and beat Madison Central, 69-61, in the Brent Ray Classic played on Saturday.

Rylee Sammons finished with 25 points and Nick Robinson added 19 as the Panthers improved to 5-1. Zac Lockhart added nine.

Lawrence County used a big third period to pull away and beat Chesapeake, Ohio, 82-71, in the Boyd County Roundball Classic played ay Boyd County High School on Saturday.

Cody Maynard stripped the nets for a game-high 35 points as the Bulldogs moved to 4-2. Trenton Adkins followed with 23 and Baden Gillispie added 10. Will Lafferty finished with eight.

Joby Johnson led the balanced attack with a game-high 24 points as Central improved to 5-2. Nigel Nichols followed with 14 and Bodie Bentley tossed in 13. Isaiah Adams tallied 11.

Jaeshon Nugent paced the Hornets, now 1-8, with 12 points.
