Highway crewmembers are taking precautionary measures to combat snow and ice

Highway Departments had their crew-members ready to combat the winter storm as they took precautionary measures to keep our roads clear and safe.

Information Officer Sara George from Highway District 12 says that their crews are always ready and preparing the day before a snowstorm hits by filling up their trucks with salt and liquid calcium chloride.

George mentions that everyone should not only practice safe driving habits but also check on things such as tire pressure, headlights, taillights, etc.

She says that wet snow is more of a problem during the following days, especially when temperatures drop and freeze the extra moisture from the wet snow to create ice.

Combining the efforts of crew members clearing the roads and drivers ensuring that their vehicles are winterized, we can all travel safely this winter season.
