PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — A Paintsville man faces a long list of criminal charges, after a parking lot fender-bender turned into a police chase through two counties.
It began Monday in Prestonsburg, when a caller reported that James J. Evans, 49, had collided with another vehicle in a grocery store parking lot and fled the scene.
Police spotted Evans’s vehicle at the intersection of Lake Drive and Court Street and attempted to pull him over, but the truck took off north on Lake Drive and Route 321, heading into Johnson County. The chase continued into Paintsville, with Paintsville Police and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office joining the pursuit.
Evans finally lost control of his truck and crashed into an embankment near the entrance to the Paintsville Walmart.
Evans was taken to Highlands ARH Medical Center and later transferred to Pikeville Medical Center for injuries sustained in the crash. Once he is released, he will be charged with fleeing the scene of an accident, fleeing police, wanton endangerment and several traffic violations.
