Judgment entered against Conn accomplice in whistleblower suit

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Seven-and-a-half years after it was filed, a federal whistleblower lawsuit that served as the first legal threat to former disability attorney Eric C. Conn has now ended.

David Daugherty

Current and former Social Security Administration employees Jennifer Griffith and Sarah Carver filed the lawsuit in 2011 against Conn and former Social Security Judge David Daugherty. In it, they alleged a vast conspiracy to defraud Social Security by obtaining disability benefits for Conn’s clients through fraud.

Last year, a federal judge entered a judgment against Conn, shortly after he pleaded guilty to federal theft and bribery charges.

This morning, another judge entered a similar judgment against Daugherty, after he pleaded guilty to two counts of bribery last May.

Both men have now been ordered to repay the government nearly $31.5 million. If any money is ever recovered, a portion of that amount will go to Griffith and Carver.
