FRANKFORT, Ky. — New Year’s weekend was not kind to Kentucky’s coronavirus numbers, as cases went on the rise following a brief decline.
The state saw more than 11,000 new cases from Dec. 31 to Jan. 3 — an increase of nearly 5,000 over the four-day Christmas weekend. That brings the total to nearly 278,000.
One hundred more Kentuckians have died, raising the death toll to 2,723.
Nearly 1,700 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19, including 421 in intensive care and 196 on ventilators.
The state’s positivity rate is now 11.12 percent — a new record during widespread testing.
