PRESTONSBURG, Ky — Kyle Collins, 23, of Berea, is accused of failing to stop after hitting 60-year-old Larry Hinkle on Route 979 at Teaberry on July 1st, 2017. Hinkle was pronounced dead at the scene. Today, just over a year after Hinkle’s death, Judge Johnny Ray Harris accepted Collins’ not guilty plea, and held Collins without bond. After the hearing, emotions were running high for both families, and the Collins’ party was made to remain in the Justice Center until the Hinkle family had exited. A bond hearing is set for Tuesday, and Collins’ trial is set for September. Reporter Polly Hopkins speaks to the Hinkle family about today’s events. The Collins family declined comment.
