Legislators to discuss education, pension reform at town hall

A town hall forum to discuss recent legislative action education will be held this week in Prestonsburg.

Tuesday evening at the Mountain Arts Center, educators and state legislators will take part in a town-hall forum hosted by the Floyd County Education Association. The hope, organizers say, is to provide factual information about recent action taken by the state legislature on education funding and pension reform for state employees.

Several mountain legislators have committed to attending the forum. They include senators Ray Jones II, Johnny Ray Turner and Brandon Smith; and state representatives Chris Harris, John Blanton and Larry Brown.

The event had been planned for days, but the situation for the state’s educators was complicated by Governor Matt Bevin’s promise to veto the recently passed budget and revenue bills. But Tuesday’s planned forum will still go on.

The town hall forum hosted by the Floyd County Education Association will be held Tuesday at the Mountain Arts Center beginning at 5:30. The forum is open to the public.
