HI HAT, Ky. — The Floyd County School System says all students are safe, after South Floyd Elementary went on lockdown this morning over a report of a man with a weapon on school grounds.
The school system says it received a report around 9 a.m. of a man on the school campus with a weapon. The man reportedly fled the scene on foot and was believed to be traveling toward Melvin.
The school was immediately placed on lockdown and the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office began a search for the man.
The lockdown was lifted around 10:30, at the direction of law enforcement, but there is no word on whether deputies have found the man.
The man is described as Black, wearing a blue-and-white UK jacket and black pants. The sheriff’s office asks anyone with information about the man to contact their office or call 911.
