FRANKFORT, Ky. — Many Eastern Kentuckians will soon be getting their electricity from a new source.
The Public Service Commission on Tuesday approved Liberty Utility’s proposal to buy Kentucky Power for more than $2.8 billion. But that approval came with a few strings attached.
Kentucky Power will be required to pay more than $100 million that will be passed on to customers through bill credits that are expected to lower monthly bills initially.
Those payments include $43.5 million for storm damages, which the PSC said were a result of Kentucky Power’s failure to adequately invest in its distribution system.
The sale is expected to be finalized later this year.
