Man arrested after allegedly shooting toward trooper

A Pike County man is facing felony charges after allegedly firing a gun in the direction of a Kentucky State Police trooper.

According to court documents, Charles Keith Wallace, 30, of Stratton Fork, Canada, was arrested June 19 near his residence. According to court documents, Kentucky State Police responded to a domestic violence complaint at Wallace’s residence, during which he was reported to have been intoxicated and causing property damage. Wallace was also reported as having been firing a weapon into the mountainside.

According to court documents, a witness called KSP Post 9 in Pikeville and reported that Wallace “crouched down in a kneeling tactical position” with a rifle while awaiting the responding trooper’s arrival. The trooper wrote in an arrest citation that upon his arrival, he heard a gunshot and retreated toward cover. The witness who contacted Post 9 reported that Wallace had fired the gun, a rifle, in the direction of the trooper.

A foot pursuit was then initiated, court documents said, and Wallace eventually charged toward and threatened to kill the trooper, who deployed his Taser stun gun. Wallace and the trooper fought, the citation said, with Wallace kicking the trooper before being brought under control and arrested.

Wallace was charged with first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, third-degree assault of a police officer, resisting arrest, menacing and third-degree terroristic threatening. He was lodged in the Pike County Detention Center and was released later in the day after posting a $10,000 cash bond. Wallace is due back in court Friday.
