GRAPEVINE, KY.–A Perry County man is facing criminal charges, after police were called to a Grapevine residence to investigate a complaint that his dogs were not receiving the proper care. Sgt. Ruey Couch with the Perry County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call and he videoed what he saw. We are about to show you that video, but we warn you that it is disturbing.
When Sgt. Couch arrived at the residence, he found four puppies, one of which was lying dead on the porch. The puppies’ mother was being kept on a very short chain under the porch. The dogs were not being properly fed, and the mother was underweight. The dogs also had no shelter, despite temperatures in the 30s. The owner of the dogs, Kayland Miller, was charged with second-degree cruelty to animals, which is a misdemeanor.
In Kentucky, first-degree cruelty only applies to instances involving animal fighting ventures. The surviving dogs were seized and taken to the Kentucky River Regional Animal Shelter, in Hazard.
