Man charged with strangulation

Skylar Kinney

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pikeville man was arrested Wednesday night, after allegedly attacking his girlfriend, then running from police.

Officers were called to a home on Julius Avenue just before 7 p.m., where they found a woman standing in the street with visible injuries. She accused 28-year-old Skylar Kinney of strangling her and biting her.

Police found Kinney hiding behind the home and attempted to arrest him, but say he ran up the mountain instead. He was captured a short time later but allegedly continued fighting with police, before officers used a taser to get him to comply.

Kinney now faces a felony charge of strangulation, which carries a potential sentence of 5-to-10 years in prison, along with fleeing police, resisting arrest and other charges.
