LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — The progressive Kentucky lawmaker who faced off against former Marine fighter pilot Amy McGrath for the Democratic U.S. Senate nomination has announced a new organization to build on the progressive causes he championed during his campaign.
The organization, Hood to the Holler, will work to unite Kentuckians of different racial and economic backgrounds on issues of democratic participation, climate justice and more, Kentucky state Rep. Charles Booker said in an announcement to supporters Thursday.
The organization’s title takes after Booker’s campaign slogan, which aimed to unite black and white Kentuckians throughout the state.
The 35-year-old Booker lost to McGrath by about 15,000 votes in June’s primary. Despite assumptions that McGrath would coast to victory, Booker surged amid national protests over the deaths of Black Americans in encounters with police, including the fatal shooting of Breonna Taylor by Louisville police.
