Williamson mayor terminates Police Chief

WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — According to reports, Mayor Charlie Hatfield handed Police Chief Barry Blair his termination letter on Monday. Hatfield says he made the decision after a discussion with the City Council last week during a private executive session.

Hatfield didn’t specify a reason for Blair’s firing, saying that “we found things that disturbed us, and that’s why we made the decision.” According to Williamson’s charter, the police chief serves at the will of the mayor.

Hatfield has appointed Lt. Grady Paul Dotson as acting police chief pending a City Council meeting next week.
