Mingo County reports its first COVID-19-related death

WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — Mingo County has experienced its first death resulting from the novel coronavirus.

A statement from Mingo County Health Department Director Keith Blankenship says the county’s first COVID-19 patient has died. According to the letter, the patient died at Cabel-Huntington Hospital in Huntington.

“The deceased was a retired male who passed away Wednesday while at Cabell-Huntington Hospital,” the letter says. “The individual had underlying health conditions and was critically ill.”

Blankenship tells Mountain Top News that the patient was 70 years old.

The Mingo County Health Department confirmed its first COVID-19 case on Saturday, April 11. No further information about the death of the patient is available, the letter says.
