WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — A nursing home in Mingo County is virus-free, according to the local health department.
The Mingo County Health Department announced Monday afternoon that all residents and staff members at Trinity Healthcare Services in Williamson tested “negative” for the novel coronavirus COVID-19. The testing was performed last week, the agency says.
“The Mingo County Health Department is excited to say THANK YOU to every member of the staff at Trinity Healthcare for their dedication in the health and safety of their residents,” Mingo County Health Department Director Keith Blankenship said in a statement issued Monday. “It is a true blessing and proof of the hard work that Trinity Healthcare has put forth to accomplish such exciting results.”
According to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, West Virginia has experienced 177 cases of COVID-19 among long-term care facilities residents and 143 positive cases among long-term care facilities staff members. The state reports 33 deaths out of long-term care facilities attributed to COVID-19, although the department does not specify whether that number includes residents, staff members or a combination of the two. Those figures are also reflective of available data as of May 3 at 5 p.m.
The results of Trinity Healthcare’s testing is not the only bit of good news the Mingo County Health Department had to report. According to the health department’s statement, the drive-through testing event at Kermit Town Hall on April 30 saw 14 tests administered. Of those 14 tests, there were no positives cases of COVID-19.
According to the health department, Mingo County has experienced two positive cases of COVID-19, and one death attributed to the virus. The county has seen 467 tests administered, with 458 tests being negative and seven tests still pending.
