MTS/BWW PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Valley’s Osborne snags honor

Shelby Valley quarterback Russ Osborne passed for 421 yards, a new single-game record, and five touchdowns while rushing for two other scores in the Wildcats lopsided district win over Bath County on Friday night.

His effort on the gridiron has earned him the Mountain Top Sports/Buffalo Wild Wings player of the Week honors.

Here is this week’s special honorable mention:

Lawrence County running back Blue Fletcher ran for 113 yards and four touchdowns in the Bulldogs big district win over Floyd Central.

Martin County running back Kolby Sparks finished with 359 yards and four touchdowns on 26 rushing attempts as the Cardinals rolled past Prestonsburg.

Betsy Layne quarterback Chase Mims passed for 288 yards and four touchdowns and ran for another as the Bobcats beat Fairview, 43-7.

Johnson Central running back running back Chase Price ran for 162 yards and three touchdowns on 14 carries as the Golden Eagles clinched the district championship with a 48-18 win over Letcher Central.

Shelby Valley running back Jayden Newsome ran for 127 yards and one touchdown on 12 carries and he hauled in four passes for 97 yards and two other scores.

Belfryrunning back Isaac Dixon ran for 95 yards on just four carries and three touchdowns to lead Belfry to a 58-8 win over Pike County Central, clinching the district title.

Pikeville running back Blake Birchfield carried 30 times for 187 yards and two touchdowns as the Panthers wrapped up the district championship with a 17-0 win over Hazard.

Honorable mention include:

Man quarterback Israel Canterbury passed for 181 yards and two touchdowns.

Tug Valley quarterback Elijah Fluty finished with 152 yards passing and a pair of touchdowns. 

Logan quarterback Jordan Hayes passed for 144 yards and three touchdowns. 

Tug Valley running back Tanner Kirk ran for 237 yards and one touchdown.

East Ridge running back Gabe Mullins ran for 122 yards and one touchdown.

Lawrence Conty’s Douglas Hall rushed for 149 yards on nine rushing attempts and one score.

Prestonsburg running back Carter Akers had 176 yards and one touchdown on 19 rushing attempts.

Magoffin County quarterback Lucas Litteral passed for 174 yards and one touchdown, and he rushed for 112 yards on 13 carries. 

Betsy Layne receiver Nicholas Howell caught four passes for 81 yards and a pair of scores.

Letcher Central quarterback Carson Adams passed for 170 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 79 yards and a score.

Shelby Valley running back Ethan Bentley rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns on just six attempts.

Shelby Valley receiver Brady Bentley had three catches for 155 yards and two scores. 

Paintsville quarterback Frederick James passed for 235 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
