PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Saturday morning, more than 150 people gathered at Pikeville High School to participate in the Officer Scotty Hamilton Memorial 11.1 K race. While most runs in Pikeville are either a 5K or a 10K, organizers felt this run should reflect Scotty Hamilton’s unit number, which was 111. The 7 mile race took runners around Pikeville, where Officer Hamilton patrolled, and by his final resting place where everyone was given a blue carnation to place as they passed by. Nearly 50 people who didn’t want to commit to the 11.1 K run, chose to participate in the 1.11 mile walk. Officer Hamilton was shot and killed in the line of duty March 13th. Proceeds from Saturday’s race will be put in a trust fund for his one year old daughter, Brynlee.
