PRESTONSBURG, Ky. – Adams Middle School in Prestonsburg was cleared following a bomb threat Monday morning.
School officials said administration was alerted to the threat after a student reported getting a threatening text message on Friday. The school was made aware of the text Monday.
Once aware of the incident, the school called 911 and began safety protocols.
Students were first taken to the parking lot of the adjacent city utilities building and later bused to Prestonsburg High School while law enforcement made a swept both inside and outside of the school. The school was cleared after no explosives were found.
School officials identified and took into custody an 11-year-old student connected to the incident. According to a press release from the Floyd County Board of Education, the student will be charged with first-degree terroristic threatening.
