32-year-old Brandon Scott Sumner was arrested Thursday after KSP’s Electronic Crime Branch discovered sexually explicit images of juveniles being uploaded online.

Investigators executed a search warrant Thursday at a residence in Scuddy and seized electronic equipment believed to have been used in the offenses. The equipment was sent to the KSP Forensic Laboratory for examination.

Sumner is charged with 20 counts of possessing matter portraying a minor under the age of 12 in a sexual performance. Each charge is a Class C felony punishable by five to 10 years in prison.

Sumner was lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail. The investigation remains ongoing and police say additional charges may be filed, pending a forensic examination of electronic devices seized from his home.

In 2019, Sumner was arrested after a woman found her 7-year-old son in bed with Sumner with his pants off. The boy reported Sumner had touched him inappropriately every day for almost three weeks.

Sumner was later indicted on 19 counts of first-degree sexual abuse and 199 counts of possession of child porn. But in July of 2020, he pleaded guilty to one count of each charge while the other charges were dismissed. He was given five-year suspended sentence.

The investigation of the current case was conducted through the Kentucky Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, which includes more than 26 local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
