The first set of positive COVID-19 cases in Pike County discovered through the recent drive-through testing event have been confirmed.
In a video posted to the Pike County Health Department’s Facebook page, Health Director Tammy Riley announced three new cases of the novel coronavirus have been confirmed in the county. Riley also confirmed that the patients were tested at the drive-through testing event held April 21-23 at Shelby Valley High School.

The patients include a 23-year-old female, a 74-year-old female and a 77-year-old male. All of the patients, Riley said, are home and isolated and officials are conducting contact tracing at this time.
Riley said with the success of the drive-through testing event, she expect more positive tests will be announced in the coming days. The three-day total for the drive-through testing event at Shelby Valley was 942 tests administered to both symptomatic and asymptomatic patients. The event was sponsored by Kroger, Gravity Diagnostics and the state.
Another positive result from the Pike County drive-through testing was also announced Sunday. The Kentucky River District Health Department announced that a Letcher County resident also tested positive at the event. Information about the patient was not released by the health department, which told The Mountain Eagle newspaper that the state had not forwarded the information as of 8 p.m. Sunday. The case is Letcher County’s second COVID-19 case. The health department says the county’s first COVID-19 patient has recovered.
