Pike man charged with assaulting mother, another person

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pike County man was arrested over the weekend in connection with a pair of assaults.

Joseph Wayne Charles, 49, was arrested on Sunday, over a report that he had assaulted his mother the previous afternoon. The woman reportedly exhibited injuries to her face and chest.

Charles is charged with a misdemeanor count of fourth-degree assault for that case.

However, during his arrest, he was also served with a warrant from another case, in which is he accused of beating another person in the head and face with a blunt instrument back on Nov. 22. Charles is charged with second-degree assault in that case, a felony which can result in a prison sentence of between five and 10 years.

He is being held in the Pike County Detention Center on bonds totaling $5,500.
