HAROLD, Ky. — A Pike County man faces a felony terroristic threatening charge in Floyd County, after allegedly threatening to kill the police officer who was arresting him following a domestic violence complaint.

Floyd County deputies were dispatched to a home on Barn Branch last Wednesday over a report of a domestic dispute. When they arrived, the woman who lives at the address said her boyfriend, Richie Ward, 65, of Elkhorn City, had grabbed her by the shoulders and shook her, causing his head to strike her in the mouth.

When questioned, Ward reportedly admitted grabbing the woman but said he didn’t remember if he made contact with her. He was then arrested.

The deputy wrote in the police report that as he started to put him in the police car, Ward pulled away. The report goes on to say that Ward told the deputy went if he through with arresting him, he would kill him and would find his family would burn their house down with them inside. He also allegedly claimed to be part of the Highwaymen motorcycle gang, and gang members would also come after the deputy and his family.

Ward is now charged with second-degree terroristic threatening, which is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison. He also faces misdemeanor charges of fourth-degree assault and resisting arrest.
