COAL RUN VILLAGE, Ky. — Police called to a Pike County business over a public intoxication complaint ended up arresting a woman for fentanyl trafficking.

State troopers were called to Rural King in Coal Run over a report of an intoxicated shopper in the store. When they arrived, they found they found the woman, identified as Devona Williamson, 34, of Hardy, in the checkout line and asked her to step outside.
After asking the woman to empty her pockets, police found about $40 worth of merchandise from the store. They then asked to search the woman’s bag, but she refused.
After explaining that because she was found with items from the store in her pockets, they had to search her bag. She agreed to turn it over, but warned officers there could be fentanyl inside.
Officers found a bag of a white powder which Williamson said was sugar substitute, but which police believe was fentanyl. They also found pipes, scales, plastic bags and several pills.
Williamson told police the items were not hers but belonged to her boyfriend, who was not there.
She was arrested and charged with fentanyl trafficking, drug possession, shoplifting, public intoxication and several other charges.
