Pike woman wins $50,000 in online lottery game

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pikeville woman is several thousand dollars richer, after a big win on the Kentucky Lottery’s online game, Holiday Market.

Glenda, who asked that her last name not be publicized, says she got online to play on the evening of Nov. 5.

After playing $5 a couple of times and not winning anything, she says she considered giving up, but decided to play one more time. That turned out to be a fateful decision, as she was soon greeted with a message that she had won $50,000.

“I was in awe,” Glenda said.

Despite the win, she says it didn’t quite sink in until a check for her after-tax winnings of more than $35,000 showed up. That’s when she says a rough year got a lot better.

“This shined a bright light on what has been a crazy 2020,” Glenda told officials.

She says she plans to use the money to pay off some bills and buy her dad a new lawnmower.
