PIKEVILLE, Ky. (MTN) — An art piece was recently unveiled by City of Pikeville officials, a piece that conceptualizes Appalachian culture.
Austin Casebolt, a Pikeville native who grew up with mountain culture, says that his inspiration behind “Woman with Cardinal” was to capture the spirit of the mountains and to respond to the stereotypes of Eastern Kentucky people.
“Pikeville Kentucky is the place that built me… this piece was about giving back to the community in a way that brought joy and that would remind people of the dignity that exists from being from this wonderful, wonderful area,” states Casebolt.
This unveiling is one of many pieces that will be added to the city as part of an art initiative program created by various organizations around the region.
