Pikeville Farmers Market handing out senior vouchers

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — For the second consecutive summer, the Pikeville Farmers Market will be handing out vouchers for senior citizens.

Any qualifying senior is welcome at the UK Cooperative Extension Office booth to pick up a voucher. The booth will be located at the farmers market pavilion beside Pikeville High School. The vouchers are first come, first served.

According to the U.S.D.A., low-income seniors are generally defined as individuals who at at least 60 years old and who have household incomes of not more than 185% of the federal poverty income guidelines.

“They have to bring proof of their age and proof of income here to the farmers market,” said Pikeville Farmers Market Secretary Bridget Tackett.

The Pikeville Farmers Market is open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. and on Tuesdays from 4:30 p.m. until 7 o’clock.
