PIKEVILLE, Ky. — It took a few days, but Pikeville Police finally got their man.

Last Wednesday, a patrol officer attempted to stop a motorcycle that had no working tail lights on U.S. 23 near Mayo Circle. The motorcyclist sped away instead and the officer abandoned the chase.

The bike continued onto U.S. 119, where it dropped a backpack containing meth and cocaine. Police also determined that the bike had been pulled over once before, and had been operated at that time by James Morgan, 46, of Pikeville.

When police went to Morgan’s home on Monday, he reportedly told the officers he fled because he was afraid he would go to jail for not having a license.

He was arrested and charged with fleeing police, possession of meth and cocaine, and other charges. He remains in the Pike County Detention Center.
