Police: Man flees police, crashes into two cruisers

A Floyd County man was arrested last week and charged with several felony counts after allegedly fleeing from police and crashing into two police vehicles.

According to a statement from the Martin City Police Department, 37-year-old John P. Tackett, of Harold, was arrested on six felony charges after he ran from police on Friday at approximately 4 p.m. According to the statement, the pursuit began in Printer on Ky. 112 after Martin Police Chief Kenny Stidham attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a Toyota pickup truck driven by Tackett.

According to the statement, the pursuit entered into the Martin City Limits and eventually came to an end when Tackett lost control of his vehicle and crashed along Ky. 2030 in Printer near Blackhawk Mining. Tackett’s vehicle had struck Stidham’s vehicle, as well as a Floyd County Sheriff’s Department vehicle driven by Sheriff’s Office Lt. Clayton Teel, the statement said.

Both cruisers sustained minor damage, but neither Teel, nor Stidham required medical attention, the statement said.

Tackett was charged with first-degree fleeing or evading police, two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, two counts of first-degree criminal mischief and first-degree possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine). He was lodged in the Floyd County Detention Center.
