CANADA, Ky. — A Pike County man was arrested Sunday evening, after he allegedly tried to evade a roadblock due to having drugs and a gun in his car.

State troopers were manning a roadblock on East Big Creek Road just before 7 p.m. Sunday, when they saw an SUV approach, stop and then attempt to make a U-turn, only to get stopped when he hit a guardrail.

When officers got to the car, they discovered that the driver had fled on foot. After a quick search, they found Lee Shaw, 51, of Sidney, in a nearby creek, hiding beneath a tree. He surrendered without incident once he was found.

Shaw reportedly told police he ran when he saw the police lights because he got scared due to having a gun and a pound of marijuana in his trunk. Police also found a small bag of suspected meth in the car.

He was arrested and charged with trafficking in marijuana, meth possession, leaving the scene of an accident, fleeing police and numerous traffic violations.
