Police release additional details about deadly officer-involved shooting in Knott County

LITTCARR, Ky. — Police are revealing more details about an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Knott County last week.

Deputies and state troopers were called to a home on Seals Hollow Road at Littcarr around 7:30 a.m., Sept. 9. They were responding to a report of a man possibly armed with a knife who had entered the home without permission.

When police arrived, they began communicating with the suspect, identified as 35-year-old Travis Pratt, who had barricaded himself inside a room in the home.

According to Kentucky State Police, when officers forced their way into the room, Pratt refused to obey officer commands and two tasers were used on him, with no effect. Eventually, officers came to believe Pratt posed a deadly threat, and a state trooper and a deputy both shot him, killing him.

No officers were injured.

In accordance with procedure, both officers have been placed on paid administrative leave while Kentucky State Police continues to investigate the incident.
