Washington D.C. — President Donald Trump declared that a major disaster exists in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and ordered Federal assistance. The money will help with local recovery efforts in the areas affected by severe storms, straight-line winds, flooding, landslides, and mudslides from February 6 to March 10. The funding is available to eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities, according to the White House. Local Counties include Breathitt, Floyd, Johnson, Knott, Lawrence, Letcher, Magoffin, Martin, Perry and Pike. Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures for the entire Commonwealth.
