Prestonsburg Food City employee tests positive for COVID-19

The Floyd County Health Department issued a statement Monday after determining an employee at Prestonsburg Food City has tested positive for COVID-19.

According to the statement, the health department is advising Prestonsburg Food City customers and employees to monitor themselves for signs or symptoms of novel coronavirus COVID-19 if they believe they had 30 minutes or more of direct contact, closer than within 6 feet, of anyone in the Food City deli on Saturday, April 25. The advisory was issued after the health department learned of the patient’s employment at the store.

The patient, the health department said, was notified of their positive COVID-19 test within 30 minutes of the test results and the patient was placed in isolation at home. The identity of the patient has not been released, nor has any identifying information.

In a statement issued in conjunction with the Floyd County Health Department, Prestonsburg Food City says the patient is a part-time employee who works one day per week and worked for only five hours on Saturday. The store says employees cleaned and sanitized the store, following recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and a professional cleaning company conducted another extensive cleaning of the store.

The statement from Food City says the employee who tested positive for COVID-19 has shown no symptoms associated with the virus and the health department determined that due to the few number of hours worked by the employee, as well as the cleaning and sanitization measures taken by the store, the incident represents “very low risk.” The health department, in its statement, also stated the incident represented only a “minimal” risk to others.
