Program gets companies ready for Defense contracts

SOMERSET, Ky. — The Southeast Kentucky Economic Development Corporation is looking for businesses interested in obtaining quality certifications, in order to bid on government contracts.

seed-preThe group’s Supplier Education and Economic Development program aims to help 12 companies become ISO 9001 or AS9100 certified, which are necessary in order to do businesses with the Department of Defense.

SKED Executive Director Brett Traver says while you might not think of Eastern Kentucky as being a hotbed for defense contractors, there are actually several companies already doing business with the government … and many more who could.
