Pike County, Ky: An official in Pike County told EKB News that the announcement in Floyd County that RCL Chemical would locate a natural gas-to-liquid fuels plant there instead of in Pike County is still good news for Pike County. Pike Deputy Judge-Executive Herbie Deskins said he expects RCL Chemical company to soon begin repaying the $400,000 the county loaned it several years ago for a proposed coal-to-liquid fuels plant project. The loan and the lack of progress on the project in Pike County has nearly resulted in a lawsuit against RCL. But, Deskins said, the important this is the project moving forward in Eastern Kentucky.
“I think we are gonna get our first check, pretty soon, on the 400,000.Then eventually we should be able to collect well over 800,000 on the interest that it’s accrued. That’s in total, 400,000 back and 400,000 interest. Plus then we will be able to buy their product at a very cheap price.”
RCL Chemical announced Wednesday its intentions to locate the plant in the Eastern community. Floyd Judge-Executive Ben Hale said diesel fuel and other products will be manufactured at the plant. The company said more than 500 construction jobs will be created by the project.
