FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (MTN) — The City of Martin’s Annual Red, White and Blue Day’s Festival has been canceled this year due to COVID-19 concerns.

According to a statement released from Martin’s Chief of Police Kenny D. Stidham, the safety and well-being of the community is a top priority and the cancellation of the festival will assist in combating the spread of COVID-19.

Stidham continues to say that they will still be honoring the families of the veterans who have lost their lives this year, but they aren’t able to provide a dinner to those families.

“We understand that many of you are looking forward to the event and this is frustrating. However, we must consider the directives of the CDC and State government,” states Stidham. “We assure you, we will do everything we can to make the 2021 festival better than ever! Thank you for understanding!”

The fireworks event will still take place, but a date and time has yet to be scheduled.
