A rock slide Wednesday morning closed a traffic heavy Pike County road, leaving the mountainside unstable as crew members of the Kentucky Transportation cabinet worked to clear the road way.

The slide happened on US 460 near the old Millard school leaving both lanes of traffic blocked without an alternate route. A rotation of trucks lined up to relieve one another as they hauled away the rubble.

Around noon Wednesday, one lane of the road was re-opened to traffic.

At last check, officials with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 12 say they hope to have the road fully reopened soon.
