Russell Fork drowning victim identified

ELKHORN CITY, Ky. — A man whose body was found in the Russell Fork River Thursday night has been identified.

Pike County Coroner Kevin Hall identified the victim as Zack Mullins, 19, of Grundy.

Mullins was a 2025 graduate of Hurley High School and played on the football team. In a senior spotlight, he wrote that he planned to become a coal miner after graduation.

Hall did not have any information about the events leading up to his death.

Mullins’ body was found in Kentucky around 9 p.m. by rescuers with Millard Fire & Rescue. His body has been taken to the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office and the investigation will be handled by Kentucky State Police.
