Scotty Hamilton Way made official

Pikeville, Ky- Two weeks ago we brought you the story of how slain Pikeville Police Officer Scotty Hamilton was honored in a variety of ways at the Pikeville City Commission meeting. One of those honors came in the form of a city ordinance renaming East Street, Scotty Hamilton Way. Pikeville Mayor Jimmy Carter signed the second reading of that ordinance at tonight’s Commission meeting making it official. Mayor Carter says the renaming of the street adds to Officer Hamilton’s legacy.

“I like to think one of these days when his daughter grows up and is walking the streets of Pikeville, that shell be able to look up at that sign and say “that’s my dad”. The city of Pikeville and the residence of Pikeville were good enough to honor him, and i think its more than fitting and I would like to be able to do a lot more and hopefully somewhere down the road, we will be able to do a lot more.”

The official signing of the ordinance officially changes the 911 address of the Pikeville City Police Department to 111 Scotty Hamilton Way, one-eleven being Officer Hamilton’s unit number which was also officially retired at the previous Commission meeting.
